The causes and conditions contributing to the development of alcoholism in children

  • Over and clinical manifestations of teen alcoholism
  • The issues of early alcoholism began to attract the attention of researchers in the 90-ies of the last century in connection with the prevalence of alcohol traditions and customs to give children spirits as General health-improving and tonic.
Analyzing the development of the problem in historical perspective, B. S. Bratus', P. I. Sidorov (1984) note that the scientific developments in this field were conducted in various directions: examined the prevalence and pattern of alcohol consumption by children; the influence of alcohol on the body of children and adolescents; defined the relationship between school results and alcohol use; was developed and tested programmes alcohol education.
For decades, up to 20-30 years. XX century among doctors held discussion about the use of alcohol to strengthen the body, soothe, improve sleep and appetite, have not yet been proved to its negative effect on the physical and mental development of children and probability of formation of alcoholism in childhood and adolescence with early initiation of children to alcohol.
For the period subsequent study of early alcoholism is characterized by a more in-depth examination of the factors causing the addiction to alcohol and alcohol abuse, and work in this direction were carried out only in the last two decades.
According to G. N. Satsevich (CIT. on Cwinner, 1977, and others), the process of increasing the consumption of alcohol among adolescents and children is steadily growing. So, in the USA the number of children who occasionally use alcohol reaches 90%, in Germany-45%. According to the data on Germany, alcoholic drinks daily use 8% of people aged 12-14 years old, 20%-15-17, 31% - 18-20 % and 41% -21 -24 years.
When interviewing a large group of people in our country it is estimated that around 95% of them were first introduced to alcohol to 15 years. Independently and systematically abused alcohol to 19 years, almost 90%. 20-25 years it went they in the habit.
Formation of children's and teenage alcoholism is a number of conditions, which can be divided into three groups (Pyatov, Menshikov Palace, N. Shumsky. ,, 1983). The first is : 1) exogenous hazard, mainly transferred craniocerebral trauma; 2) reject or delay of physical development; 3) syndromes mental retardation or agitation within the first years of life; sleeping with the nightmarish dreams, segoviana, segodina, enuresis; the speech in the form of tongues or stuttering, cerebral organic symptoms (headache, dizziness, poor tolerance of heat, fainting); physical and mental fatigue; 4) intellectual and characteristic deviation-features easy imbecility, some types of character accentuations and psychopathy.
More generally, the first group of factors that contribute to early addiction to alcohol, be certain biological malfunction in the body, particularly the Central nervous system, causing the reduction of its resistance to adverse influence of alcohol.
Biological inferiority of the Central nervous system most often occurs in the toxic effects of alcohol on the body of the child at the earliest stages of its development, starting from the moment of fertilization, if at least one of the parents at the time of conception, the fetus is in a state of alcoholic intoxication. High risk of pathological deviations in physical and mental development is created when alcohol consumption by the mother during pregnancy, breastfeeding early initiation of alcohol. In more detail, we should consider the role of certain types of accentuations of character and of personality disorder in the early development of alcoholism, which is emphasized by the majority of Soviet and foreign researchers. Thus, according to A. A. Portnova, I. N. Pyatnitskaya (1973), early onset alcoholism mainly testifies to the original psihoticeski, emotional instability, a heightened suggestibility.
