Anabolic steroids

Anabolic steroid drugs (synonym anabolic steroids) are substances that stimulate protein synthesis in the body; the chemical structure is close to male sex hormones. The therapeutic indications of the anabolic steroid diverse and are determined frequent in medical practice by the need to stimulate protein synthesis in the body of the patient.
Among the indications of the greatest importance: cachexia, exhaustion and fatigue of different origin, anorexia, a slow recovery after acute infections, surgery and trauma, after massive blood loss, slow healing of bone fractures, senile osteoporosis, various system muscle and bone diseases, ulcers, kidney failure with azotemia, severe diabetes mellitus complicated with retinopathy, inoperable cases of breast cancer, cystic mastopathy, radiation sickness. In Pediatrics A. S. p. prescribed for malnutrition, stunted growth of different origin, declining food. The appointment of anabolic steroids during the treatment of corticosteroid drugs prevents or relieves complications associated with the catabolic effect of the latter. According to some data, "protective" role A. C. p. is expressed also in the protection of the adrenal cortex from atrophy when conducting corticoides therapy.
In the treatment of A. S. p. necessary meals with adequate protein.
Contraindications: pregnancy, nursing period, prostate cancer, liver disease with severe insufficiency. Side effects may occur with prolonged use of anabolic steroids in high doses in androgenic effect (brutalization vote, menstrual disorder, acne). Described cases of holestaza and even damage to liver cells. Changes disappear after stopping treatment. The usual therapeutic doses and intermittent courses of treatment (four-week intervals of 4-6 weeks) are not accompanied by side effects.
