Biological weapons

Bioweapon (biological weapons) - munitions and devices filled with biological agents (bacteria, viruses, rickettsiae, parasitic fungi, toxic waste products of some microorganisms), designed to destroy people, animals and plants.
International Geneva Convention of 1925, which was joined by more than 60 States, including the Soviet Union, recognized biological weapons is prohibited by means of armed struggle. However, some of the capitalist state refused to recognize this decision. The use of biological weapons is a grave crime against humanity, grossly violating the norms of international law.
Properties and characteristics. According to foreign experts, an important feature of biological weapons is impressing with its high efficiency at very low doses required for infection and the ability of some infectious diseases to the epidemic to spread. The appearance in the result of use of biological weapons even a relatively small number of patients in the future may result in coverage of the epidemic large masses of troops and population. The relative stability and the duration of the damaging effects of biological weapons due to the resistance of some pathogens of infectious diseases in the environment, particularly if they are applied in the form of spores.
The result can be created long lasting foci of infection. The same effect can be achieved by application of the infected vector - mites and insects.
Specific feature of biological weapons, distinguishing it from all other types of weapons, is the presence of the incubation period, the duration of which depends on the nature caused by infectious diseases (from a few hours to 2-3 weeks).
Small doses of biological means, the absence of color, taste and smell, as well as the relative complexity and duration of the special methods of indication (bacteriological, immunological, physicochemical) complicate the timely detection of biological weapons and create conditions for its covert operations.
In the opinion of foreign specialists, one of the properties of biological weapons is its strong Psychotrauma impact on civilians and troops. The peculiarity of biological weapons is also its inverse (retroactive) the action that can occur when using pathogens of contagious diseases and is the spread of epidemic diseases among the troops, who used this weapon.
Probable biological means. Among the most effective biological means of foreign authors refer pathogens of plague, smallpox, anthrax, tularemia, brucellosis, glanders, melioidosis, spotted fever Rocky mountains, an American of encephalomyelitis horses, yellow fever, q-fever, deep mycosis, and botulinum toxin. For infections of farm animals can be used pathogens FMD, rinderpest, African swine fever, anthrax, Sapa; to infect plant pathogens of wheat stem rust, etc.
The methods of application. Pathogenic microorganisms and their toxins can be used as biological weapons in the form of suspensions and powders, as well as through the dissemination of infected insects and mites. Infection can occur through inhalation of contaminated air, ingestion of contaminated food and water, the bites of infected ticks and insects, the ingress of pathogenic agents on the mucous membranes and skin, as well as by contact with the infected objects and the sick.
According to generally accepted abroad point of view, the most efficient use of bacteriological agents is aerosol, when germs or their toxins are sprayed in the air. To create bacterial clouds can be used bombs, special artillery shells (mines, rockets of near and far action, vylivanie aircraft devices. A certain role is given to sabotage the methods of use of biological weapons.
The objects of biological attack may be the largest administrative and industrial centers, railway junctions, troops, livestock farms and crops of grain and industrial crops.
