The peritoneum

The peritoneum is the serous membrane inside the abdominal cavity.
The peritoneum lines the wall of the abdominal cavity (parietal a piece of peritoneum) and covers the internal organs (visceral piece of peritoneum), forming a closed bag. Peritoneal cavity - the narrow space between the sheets, which contains a small amount of serous fluid. During the transition of peritoneal the walls on the organs and organ on the body there are folds, forming of bundles, the mesentery, the omentum (see).
Between the folds and ligaments peritoneal there are pockets, bags and deepening of the peritoneum. The smooth surface of the peritoneum, wetted with liquid allocated lining her flat cells, creates favorable conditions for sliding surfaces of adjacent organs when they move.
