Carotene (provitamin a) is one of the most common natural coloring substances, hydrocarbons, easily soluble in fats, bile, chloroform and insoluble in methyl and ethyl alcohols. Carotene - a stimulator of growth needed to animals and humans. Contained in fruits and root crops (apricots, tomatoes, plums, carrots, green onions, and so on), vegetable oils, and animal organism (in fat, milk, serum, and so on). Carotene has biological activity. Entering the body with meal, carotene is converted to vitamin a (see Vitamins). High consumption carotene causes intensive skin pigmentation (pseudoculture).
