Caustic soda

Sodium hydroxide (caustic soda), NaOH,hydrate of sodium oxide, white solid, temperature melting 320 C. Soluble in water, alcohol, glycerin. Widely used in industry and as a reagent in laboratories. Strong alkali. In the air spreads, absorbing water vapor and carbon dioxide, reacting with which it forms sodium carbonate Na2CO3. Store recommended in hermetically closed ware. Irritates skin and especially the mucous membranes. Extremely dangerous from caustic soda in the eye, as this can affect not only the mucous and corneas, but the deeper tissues of the eye.
