Hirsutism

Hirsutism - male type body hair growth in women; increased hair growth on the face (moustache and beard), abdomen, chest, upper and lower limbs (Fig.). The emergence of hirsutism is associated with increased production of androgens (male sex hormones). Occurs by tumors, hyperplasia of the adrenal cortex, the defeat of the ovaries, sometimes during pregnancy (after childbirth or abortion disappears). Sometimes hirsutism is a family-run feature, developing in the pubertal period.
