The monograph reflects the experience of the Department of pathology and physiology premature babies United children's hospital № 20, Leningrad.
In section outlines the modern views on the nursing of premature infants, are detailed anatomical and physiological features, highlights issues of care, feeding and organizations specialized departments.
A great place is given pathology of premature children. We analyze the main diseases of the newborn period - sepsis, pneumonia, hemolytic disease, intracranial birth trauma. Special attention is paid to prevention and modern methods of treatment.
A special Chapter dedicated to the prevention of nosocomial infections, the epidemic regime at the service of patients with acute respiratory diseases, with purulent and intestinal infection, infectious hepatitis.
Section is intended for the sisters of maternity hospitals and specialized departments for premature newborns and paramedics rural medical stations.

Preface

The problem of prematurity is one of the most actual in modern Pediatrics. Over the last decade the organization premature became more perfect. In different cities of our country, opened a maternity hospital for premature births and specialized departments for premature newborns.
Great importance is attached to training of nurses. Along with practical skills on child care nurses are required and some theoretical knowledge, without which it is difficult to fulfil qualified nursing and treatment.
Currently, the General cultural level of nurses has increased significantly. Many of them have finished a ten-year education. Therefore, the author has done absolutely correctly, read the sections anatomical and physiological peculiarities, questions of feeding, pathogenesis, clinic and treatment of major diseases of the newborn period more deeply than is commonly the case in the guides for nurses.
The monograph summarizes the extensive experience of the Department of pathology and physiology premature babies United children's hospital № 20, Leningrad. The Department was organized in 1950 and currently is the center, where are hospitalized premature children with various disorders.
For the period from 1962 to 1972, the office received 3 480 premature babies, of which 1321 with weight up to 1500
There is no doubt that this book will be a guide for the medical staff on the issue of premature and will be useful for young doctors working with babies.
