Depletion

The depletion of the state by reducing the functions of separate organs and systems or the entire body, caused by a long and intensive activities, prolonged exposure to extreme stressors, and some diseases. In the basis of depletion are complicated biochemical processes that result in dissolved substances accumulating energy, and suffers the synthesis of protein and nucleic acidsneeded to build tissues of the body. Energy production and protein synthesis are closely related, therefore, a violation of one process leads to a violation of another and to the deepening of exhaustion. Most often, the depletion occurs when fatigue, malnutrition (see Starvation, malnutrition), diseases associated with metabolic disorders (see Pituitary cachexia), chronic blood loss, injury (see Traumatic depletion) and in malignant tumors.
Cm. also Cachexia.
