Croup is a syndrome characterized by difficulty breathing, attack rough "barking" cough and hoarseness.
Croup is observed in infectious diseases associated with the defeat of the upper respiratory tract (diphtheria, scarlet fever, influenza, parainfluenza, adenovirus, and enterovirus diseases, measles and other), and allergic conditions.
Croup usually develops in children aged 6 months. up to 3 years. Most notable in spring-autumn period (paragraphy croup).
The inflammatory process may be localized in the larynx, sometimes covers the trachea and bronchi.
Diphtheria (see) cereals, develops gradually, with acute respiratory diseases of viral etiology is acute. Child day completely healthy or with slight runny nose, wakes up at night from attack rough cough and difficult breathing, he gets scared, rashes, appears quickly cyanosis naso-lip triangle. Phenomena croup can appear on 2-3-day underlying disease, often in the background of catarrh of the upper respiratory tract and high temperature. The attack can be easy and kupiruetsa usual therapeutic interventions, but can be severe, requiring surgical intervention (see Intubation, Tracheotomy).
In catarrhal inflammation of the mucous membrane of the larynx for croup favorable (phenomena stenosis quickly diminish or completely liquidated in a few hours, but may recur in the next night). When or necrotic ulcer processes in the larynx and trachea phenomena stenosis can last up to 7-10 days.
The diagnosis is based on examination of the patient - the nature of cough, voices, the degree of respiratory failure, symptoms of stenosis of the larynx and collected from parents of history.
The differential diagnosis groats (see the table) should note that in case of acute respiratory diseases acute onset typically stenosis, hoarse, but not aforizmy voice, undulating course with periods of improvement or degradation that are not characteristic of cereal diphtheria.
Croup in the catarrhal period of measles is usually mild and with the appearance of rash the symptoms of croup, as a rule, weaken. More severe is late measles croup appearing in the period of pigmentation.
Unlike groats, when foreign bodies in the larynx and trachea noted the sudden development of difficult breathing normally at normal temperature and in the daytime in the absence of symptoms of communicable diseases.
The patient croup should be performed in a hospital, as you may need specialized surgical care. In mild cases, the therapeutic effect can be obtained from the use of hot baths, mustard plasters, warm drinks and spasmolytic (see).
