It is cultivated in culture as an annual plant. The stalk height of 20-40 cm, dense pubescence, brown, thin, fork-branched. Leaves opposite, with a little petiole and two stipules; leaf blades are lanceolate. Flowers dvugubye, collected whorls in loose spike-shaped inflorescences.
Blossoms in July, mass ripening the fruit at the beginning of August.
Rodina - Asia Minor, Egypt. Naturally grows in the Mediterranean countries.
Contains essential oils as a spice used in cooking, canning and liqueur and vodka production.
In folk medicine it is used as a diaphoretic and expectorant.
