Myxedema skin

Myxedema skin - skin disease associated with the violation of the functions of the thyroid gland. There are several forms of myxedema skin: 1) generalized (diffuse) form is the result of insufficient or complete loss of thyroid function (see Hypothyroidism); characterized by swelling of the skin, especially the face and hands, a person acquires a waxy color, nose is thickened, lips swollen dramatically. The skin becomes dry, hard to the touch. A variation of this form is knotted myxedema skin by which the hands, neck, face, chest, back symmetrically, randomly or groups are painless nodes hemispherical shape color normal skin or Boskovice yellow, dense, mobile, various sizes; 2) localized (precisely) form is characterized by skin lesions of the front surfaces of the legs, where there are multiple dense knots bluish-pink, often merging with each other. This form is observed in patients with graves ' disease after thyroidectomy, radiotherapy, the application of thiuragyl. The process involved a violation correlations in the system of the pituitary - thyroid gland; 3) nodular form (myxedematous sclerosus) - symmetric eruption of a soft, waxy, flat knots with diameter 2-5 mm on the skin extensor surfaces of the hands, rarely torso. In this form deficiency of the thyroid gland is not marked.
The disease takes a long time, the patients should be under the supervision of an endocrinologist; dynamics skin manifestations depend on the success of therapy of the main disease.
Treatment. The use of drugs of the thyroid gland, x-ray irradiation area of the pituitary gland - the appointment of experts.

Myxedema skin (myxoedema cutis) is a disease of the skin, resulting in hypothyroidism, rarely with thyrotoxicosis ("Misterios skin"), and characterized vsapaniem painless nodules, the size 0,5-1 cm, hemispherical shape, color normal skin or Boskovice yellow, mobile, compact, located symmetrically, randomly or in defence " on the hands, neck, face, upper chest and back.
Manifested in three main forms: generalized, localized and nodular (papular). Generalized (or diffuse) myxedema skin associated with failure, rarely complete loss of thyroid function, different kind of swelling of the skin (especially face and upper extremities), dry, pale yellow in color and density. A variant of the generalized myxedema skin should be considered knotted (tuberose) myxedema skin (myxoedema tuberosum). In this case, the disease occurs without visible signs of delay of development of the organism and without any symptoms of the mental sphere, but the General changes of the skin, characterized generalized miksedeme skin can be observed, although insignificant.
Localized M. K. (myxoedema circumscriptum praetibiale) is characterized by a symmetric skin lesions front surface of the legs in the form of solid towering osnovatelei, isolated or merging, bluish-pink color. Often develops in patients with diffuse toxic goiter (graves ' disease) after thyroidectomy, x-ray irradiation of the thyroid gland, the application of thiuragyl. Can be combined with advanced exophthalmos. The process involved a violation correlations in the system of the pituitary - thyroid gland with increasing production of the hormone of the anterior pituitary gland. This form M. K. sometimes passes without treatment.
Nodular myxedema skin (lichen myxoedematosus) - symmetric rash (primarily on the extensor surfaces of the hands, rarely on the trunk) brilliant, waxy, flat, slightly rising soft knots with diameter 2-5 mm Symptoms thyroid, or other endocrine glands is observed.
Histologically in all forms M. K. in the dermis is celebrated deposition of mucin, contains mucopolysaccharides, in particular a significant number of hyaluronic acid.
Treatment: in generalized M. K. - tireoidin; if localized, in addition, the injection of hyaluronidase in the centers of defeat.
Cm. also Hypothyroidism.
