The nomenclature of diseases

The nomenclature of diseases - the list of the accepted set of medical science of diseases, groups and classes.
In medical practice for more than five thousand signs diagnoses. Thus one and the same disease often called differently. To explore the incidence of the population is necessary rationally structured nomenclature of diseases, the task of which is to a great variety of diagnoses to unite in a relatively small number of classification names.
In the same country without a single item diseases cannot comparison of morbidity and mortality in some regions, cities, districts. To compare morbidity and mortality of population of different countries is necessary and integral international nomenclature of diseases. The establishment of the proper names of diagnoses is necessary when registering diseases, which is the starting point of the research morbidity and mortality of the population.
In connection with the development of medical science and tasks of studying the incidence and mortality rates range of diseases periodically reviewed and improved.
Since 1965 the Soviet Union reached the international nomenclature of diseases, adopted in most countries.
New nomenclature of diseases has a three-level building. First, the most extensive stage is the nomenclature of diseases. Each of them has its own number and constitutes a separate category for the item.
The second stage consists of groups, each of which is formed by combining any number of headings. Finally, the third, most high and generalizing level, formed by combining any number of groups, classes are. All the range includes 17 classes and 999 headings.
The numbers and names of classes:
I Infectious and parasitic diseases
II Neoplasms (tumors)
III endocrine system Diseases, eating disorders and metabolic disorders
IV diseases of the blood and blood-forming organs
V Mental disorder
VI Diseases of the nervous system and sensory organs
VII Diseases of the circulatory system
VIII Diseases of respiratory organs
IX Diseases of the digestive system
X Illnesses of urinogenital bodies
XI complications of pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period
XII Diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue
XIII diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue
XIV Congenital anomalies
XV Some causes of perinatal morbidity and mortality
XVI Symptoms and ill-defined condition
XVII Accidents, poisoning and injuries
XVII class is especially rich in groups and sections (39 groups and 369 of the headings, i.e., the names of certain types of injuries and poisonings). This breadth of this class is mainly due to the fact that there are two independent from each other classification: a) for reasons of injuries (accidents on the railway, water, air transport, and so on); b) the types of injuries ( fractures of the skull, fractures, dislocations without any broken bones, bruises, burns, and so on).
The application of the common nomenclature of diseases in the practice of studying morbidity or mortality of the population is the following.
In the process of examination of patients are established and recorded in the medical documentation (out-patient cards, case histories) the diagnosis of diseases.
In order to study the incidence large variety of applied diagnostic signs reduce to a relatively few sections of a single item. For this purpose apply encryption diagnostic signs near the diagnosis of the health care worker puts the number under which the disease is marked in the international nomenclature of diseases.
After encrypting the documents put these numbers with the subsequent counting of the number of diseases for each cipher.
For successful study of morbidity and facilitate the work of encryption diagnoses of great importance accurate and detailed designation of disease diagnosis in medical documents. Instead diagnosis cannot be put symptom (headache, shortness of breath, bleeding, and so on). For morbidity statistics necessary revised final diagnoses established after the surveillance and specific studies (laboratory, x-ray and others).
For the study of disease and the correct encoding diagnoses in many forms of the disease is necessary in diagnoses to write certain refinement, depends on their correct encryption, for example after such diseases as laryngitis, tracheitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, gastritis, enteritis, colitis, jade, appendicitis and other, it should be noted their character is acute or chronic. At diagnosis of tumors indicate its localization and character (malignant or benign); in the diagnosis of herniated note - newscalenda or disadvantaged, and so on
When the diagnosis of vascular lesions of the Central nervous system indicate whether they are associated with hypertension, atherosclerosis or other diseases. At diagnosis of hypertension celebrate its stage and what body mainly affected (heart, brain, kidneys). When the diagnosis of rheumatic fever indicate acute or chronic form, flows disease affecting the heart or without it, with the defeat any of the heart valves.
In case of accidents and injuries celebrate the localization of the injury, its character (a fracture, a dislocation, injury, burns and others); clearly characterize the eye injury, in particular the presence of introducing a foreign body and burns.
