Experience White lady

Made several key findings, published twice the Reflexes of the brain", and in a break with the Military medical Academy, after years of wandering disgraced Sechenov, the real sixties, a type Kirsanov from the famous novel Chernyshevsky, gets Department in the University of Odessa, which then was called Novorossiysk. Together with Sechenov goes P. A. Spiro, his favorite student, by the way, also composed under police surveillance. It 1871.
Even before the "Reflexes of the brain" by Ivan Mikhailovich was interested in the inner Central inhibition, which he was destined to detect. He found in the Central nervous system like inhibitory centre. To do this, he conducted experiments on frogs, cutting their spinal cord and the brain at different levels and irritating cut surface of the crystal of salt.
Already in 1862 Sechenov writes: "therefore, these experiments revealed the presence in the audience halls frog nerve mechanisms oppressive reflexes when excited..."
The idea of specialized inhibitory structures in the brain occurred in Sechenov under the influence of sensational research brothers Weber, who spoke about the braking action of stray nerves of the heart. The study Sechenov internal braking was made in Paris in the laboratory of Claude Bernard, approved last and got the name of "Physiological study about oppressive mechanisms brain on reflex activity of the spinal cord".
In 1867 Ivan Mikhailovich sends a letter to his wife M. A. Sechenovo-Side: "Congratulate me, this morning the whole building lymph hearts and retarding mechanisms crowned with a brilliant way. I got four frogs upon stimulation of the optic Bugrov (where is my previous experiences holds reflexes) diastolic stop all four lymph hearts, the same stop the blood of the heart and yet, of course, oppression spinal reflexes".
So great scientist showed that inhibition of somatic nerve centers in the conditions of this experience is accompanied by the excitation of vagisov (lymph hearts associated with somatic nerves).
He further makes perhaps even more significant conclusion: "All mental acts, committed by type of reflexes should entirely be physiological research, because in the scope of this science is directly start them, sensual arousal from outside, and the end - movement; but she must be subject to a mid - psychic element in the narrow sense of the word, because the latter is often, and can be, and always, not an independent phenomenon, as it was thought before, but integral part of the process".
This will do two explanations. First, in the brain of every excitement, speaks of Sechenov, comes from outside, i.e. from exteroception or interoception. Second, the movement (which, in the opinion of Sechenov, completes each reflex), that is, muscle contraction, can be not only reduce skeletal, striated muscle, but equally and reduction of smooth muscle of the organ or vessel.
In this vein, I. M. Sechenov considers and physiological mechanisms of perception of space and time. Sechenov assumed that the external source of irritation for the sensation of time are receptors of musculoskeletal system (proprioceptor), especially excited rhythmically while walking. These rhythmic pulses of proprioception combined with visual and auditory sensations create an indication of the time. Knowing the approximate ratio between excitement of proprioception joints, muscles, tendons, on the one hand, and stereoscopic visual perception of the surrounding objects on the other, we get an idea of the space. Long distances are conscious number of steps.
In a letter to M. A. Sechenovo-Side from Graz in 1868 Sechenov wrote: "the Sabbath was made on February 29, the day memorable in our lives. Write it... because all that I found today, I consecrate thy dear, noble name. By the way, here today give the "White lady" *, so let today's main my experience is the experience of my white lady. Here it is, my friend. If the frog cut hemisphere, it sits, as you know, quite calmly. This frog usepreview sciatic nerve, cut in the popliteal depression and otesyvajut as possible above the hip. If the sciatic nerve annoying weak and medium-strength induction currents, the frog in the 1st moment of irritation runs, i.e. makes the leap; but if on the nerve to act immediately to strong currents, the frog remains in place, and runs only when the action of the current stopped. Easier and clearer reflex retaining movements walk, of course, and think up it is impossible. I think that the experience of the white lady will like it even to you, my severe..."
From the letter it is clear that Sechenov saw the possibility of various Central nervous structures come in a state of excitement at the weak irritation and retarded at strong. In the experience Shine through and thought about the so-called reciprocal inhibition, which we will be said later. If from positions that experience, to examine the mysterious behavior of two-faced stray nerves, and spears break the matter would not be necessary. The more so to the letter Ivan Mikhailovich put the figure, where schematically shown as irritation of the same sciatic nerve in the experience of the white lady" was influenced by the heart through the vagus nerve...
