Paracoccus

Paracoccus (parapertussis) is an infectious disease that is similar in clinic with whooping cough.
Etiology. The disease is caused by a microbe Bordetella parapertussis, strains which were isolated for the first time in 1935, unlike the pertussis bacteria (small gram-negative ovoid), paraclusia stick is large, is not Haemophilus influenzae, grows well on simple agar. Colony paraclusia microbes find on firm nutrient medium in 1-2 days, pertussis - in 2-3 days. Precociously microbe, unlike pertussis, contains the enzyme urease and has the ability to break down urea. Set lower infectivity compared with pertussis bacterium. Antigenic structure is not yet fully understood.
Epidemiology. The source of infection is a sick parallules. Transmission occurs by airborne droplets. Are mostly children of early age.
In Albania, England, Japan was observed sporadic cases of pericolosa; in the USSR, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia - flash pericolosa in child care institutions; in Denmark - epidemic P. Rises in the incidence of pertussis and P. occur independently of each other. Seasonal distribution of P. little studied.
Is there any immunity in Petrograd, if there is, for how long, remains outstanding.
Lautrup (N. Lautrop), D. Donchev, M. P. Alferov, H. p. Kuznetsov and others have observed cases of P. we recover pertussis children; the intervals between the two diseases ranged from a few months to 6-7 years.
The clinical picture. The literature notes that paracoccus compared with pertussis flows more easily. The average duration of the incubation period when P. 10-15 days. The General feeling sick little disturbed. A small number of patients in the first days of sickness fever. Nerezko expressed catarrhal phenomena rhinitis and redness of the throat is observed in the beginning of the disease and keep 3-5 days. The main symptom is a cough. The nature of cough distinguish two forms of pericolosa: typical form (with coloradony cough) and atypical (with the tracheobronchial cough). With coloradony cough proceeds from 11 to 20% of cases P. Cough lasts 2-3 weeks, sometimes more. In the centers P. can be allocated precociously microbe in clinically healthy children.
Diagnostics. Due to the mild symptoms of the disease and the clinical similarities in a number of cases of pericolosa with pertussis (see) bacteriological diagnosis is of primary importance. Most patients are exempt from bacteria carrier for 2-4 weeks of illness.
The forecast is favorable. In world literature describes two cases of P. [Sulzer and Wheeler (W. Zuelzer, W. Wheeler)], complicated by pneumonia and ended lethal.
Treatment for moderate forms of pericolosa is the same as in whooping cough, mild cases, treatment is not required.
