Pavor nocturnus

Pavor nocturnus (night terrors, fright night) - a special form of neurotic reactions (monosymptomatic neurosis), occurring more often in children 3-4 years and 6-8 years.
The clinical picture. In 1-1.5 hours after falling asleep, the child begins to cry, cry, jumping up from the bed, his face an expression of fear. Eyes are open, but others he does not know. On fragmentary phrases you can think that the child is afraid of something. Calling his mother himself to questions not answered. He strongly sweating, breathing casino, limbs trembling. Awakened by the mother, the child calms down and quickly falls asleep. In the morning he doesn't remember about what happened or retains partial recollection. In one third of cases to pavor nocturnus join Segodnia (somnambulism). Often able to establish that the content of the night terrors associated with troubling experiences, former shortly before illness: intimidation, family quarrels, dog bite, fires, etc.
Predisposing factors - asthenic condition, difficulty in breathing (adenoids, and others), the overflow of the stomach, intestines, and bladder. Contribute to the emergence of pavor nocturnus and constant conflict environment, overly harsh or spoiling upbringing, lack of proper routine of the day, excessive use of cinema and TV.
Pavor nocturnus usually seen in children with congenital nervousness (see Neuropathy) and underwent at an early age cerebral lesions; in the latter case, one can think of the presence of residual vascular or liquorodynamics violations. In the treatment of neurotic pavor nocturnus recommend use of various sedatives and tranquillizers (andaxin 0.2 - 0.3 g per day, trioxazin 0.2-0.3 g per day, Librium 0.01 g per day), a warm bath at night, psychotherapeutic conversations. Sometimes it is necessary to change the situation.
