Physical development

Physical development is a set of morphological and functional indices of the state of the organism. Physical development is an important indicator of the health of the population.
To study the physical development of the applied methodology anthropometric studies (see Anthropometry).
Assessment of physical development of the individual is made by comparing its anthropometric (growth, weight, chest circumference, and others), as well as other development indicators (puberty, the dental formula and others) with the average data for the corresponding sex and age. To obtain the averages of physical development of a person is examined large groups of healthy people. The measurement results are processed by the method of variation statistics. Received averages are standards of physical development of the populations concerned. The difference of conditions of life in different climatic zones, urban and rural areas, ethnographic differences cause a different level of physical development of the population, therefore, determine the local (regional) standards of physical development. Standards of physical development are specified for approximately every 5 years.
It is particularly important to the study of the physical development of children and adolescents because it is an indicator of growth and formation of the body. The study of physical development in children and adolescents is made simultaneously with health examination at the time of medical examinations and regular medical check-up conducted in children's polyclinics, adolescent rooms, exercise therapy and sports medicine clinics and other health facilities. Systematic monitoring of physical development of children allows to detect early signs of violation. Delay in growth, the absence of increases in weight are a sign of trouble. The frequency of examination of children depends on their age; less than the age of the children, the more they should be examined.
