Salmonella infections in children

Diseases of the Salmonella infections in children can proceed by type of foodborne disease resulting from ingestion of infected with Salmonella food (food transmission).
Perhaps the disease salmonellosis infected children directly from the source of the infection, animal or human, sick or bacteriological (contact-household way of infection). This mode of transmission is concentrated among newborns and infants, weakened transferred diseases with high sensitivity and became ill when injected into a human body of a relatively small number of germs.
Contact route of infection, unlike food, characterized by the occurrence is not a one-stage disease, and the gradual spread of infection in the hearth.
There are several clinical forms of salmonollosis in children (M, Danilevich).
Diarrhoea. Observed in infants. The clinical course is similar to toxic dyspepsia. Notes diarrhea, repeated vomiting, symptoms of dehydration. Long kept high temperature. The General condition is severe.
Typhoidal. Common in older children. Severe toxicosis. The liver and spleen enlarged. The pulse is weak filling; heart sounds deaf. Has high temperature.
Kolitnym. The clinical course is similar to dysentery.
Subclinical. Sometimes raises the body temperature up to subfebrile figures. Notes liquid stool to 3 to 4 times a day without pathological admixtures.
Asymptomatic salmonellosis established on the basis of laboratory results.
Complications, pneumonia, otitis, meningitis.
Laboratory diagnosis is crucial and is based on the allocation of the pathogen. Should differentiate with dysentery.
Treatment. Infants at the beginning of the disease within 8-12 hours recommended the tea and the water regime. Further shows dosed feeding breast milk or sour mixtures (yogurt, acidophilus). Older children shows a high-fiber diet, vitamins. When pronounced intoxication injected drip plasma, plasma substitutes (poliglyukin, albumin, protein and other), isotonic solution of sodium chloride, glucose, vitamin complex. Used antibiotics (chloramphenicol, tetracycline, ampicillin, when complications - penicillin and streptomycin intramuscularly) in the age doses.
