Tamponade is filling wounds and cavities sterile strips of gauze, and muscle, gland or the so-called biological swab (hemostatic sponge, fibrinous film and others).
Tamponade applied to stop venous or capillary bleeding (styptic swab), distinguishing the infected area (demarcates the swab) and removal of purulent discharge (suction swab). To stop bleeding apply tight tamponade, in other cases, the tampons are entered loosely. To stop bleeding apply dry gauze or biological tampons for separating the inflammatory process - dry gauze swabs, while drainage of purulent wounds apply dry, ointment or soaked in antiseptic liquid gauze swabs, and biological tampons. Tamponade applied with venous or capillary bleeding in the narrow depth of the wound, bleeding in the depth of purulent wounds when it is impossible to reliably stop the bleeding ligature.
For the purposes of separating the inflammatory process tamponade used in some operations on the abdominal (acute appendicitis and acute cholecystitis and other).
In order the evacuation of purulent exudate tamponade applied with infected wounds, including wounds arising after the opening of ulcers (cellulitis, mastitis, paraproctitis , and others).
In the manufacture of material for tamponade (stripes, tampons and others) region Marley must be wrapped inside, to avoid getting into the wound thread. Tampons are used for tamponade, must be regarded to subsequently remove from wounds or cavity exactly the same number of them.
