The effectiveness of toothpastes

Given the effectiveness of pastes containing phosphates, calcium and fluorine, they were used in the clinical setting. So, numerous clinical observations have shown that the use of fluoride toothpastes have a preventive effect, but, according to various authors, it is very different.
Foreign researchers used a toothpaste with fluoride tin, fluoric sodium, monoftorfosfat and other drugs fluorine and achieved a reduction of caries of teeth within 25 - 49%. Especially good results were obtained in children at a controlled three teeth cleaning. The use of fluoride and phosphate in one toothpaste also gave good results.
In recent years, many authors come to the conclusion about the necessity to combine different methods of local dental treatment, believing that it is more efficient. In Sweden I. Erickson K. Carell held a two-year test of such combined use of controlled fluoride rinse solutions and uncontrolled (home) cleaning of teeth in 1500 children and noted that the reduction of dental caries was significantly higher than in the same rinsing or only apply a paste.
However, the use of fluoride rinse and fluoride toothpaste should be used with caution, as fluorine well penetrates through the mucous membrane of the oral cavity and is deposited in the body. To use its products only in areas where its content in the water is not enough (less than 1 mg/l).
We used to prevent tooth decay in children toothpaste "Cheburashka", which includes phosphates and microelements. To do this in two schools were selected 274 students 1 - 2 classes at the age of 7 to 8 years. After a thorough dental examination of all children are taught proper care of teeth, gave a special talk with teachers and parents.
One group of children (91 student) were systematically given to the care of teeth paste "Cheburashka", another group was given hygienic pasta "Children" or "Berry". Follow-UPS should be conducted every six months, while controlling the quality of care for your mouth.
The observations suggest that with increasing duration of use paste "Cheburashka" indicators of caries in children decreased. So, after 6 months they were less control by 19.5%, and after 12 months by 47%. This allows to assume that a new toothpaste "Cheburashka" has a strong anticariogenic action.
Quite effective was the use of so-called remineralization solutions.
The principle of remineralization conservative therapy initial caries (in the stage of the Cretaceous spots) consists of the compensation of lost mineral elements enamel in the period preceding its partial demineralization. In connection with the fact that the main components of tooth enamel are calcium and phosphate, and they form the basis demineralized solutions.
Remineralization (secondary artificial mineralization) of hard tooth tissues possible due to the permeability of enamel and dentin for ions and molecules of substances in the inward direction. Penetrated ions mineral elements settle on an organic basis, forming crystalline substance, or are included in the structure nerazrushaushsii of Apatite crystals enamel.
There are very different compositions remineralization solutions, however, constitute the basis of their phosphate, calcium, fluorine. The most widely used on the recommendations E. C. Borovsky, P. a. V.A. Leus (1976), G. N. Pakhomova 10% solution of calcium gluconate, 2-10% solution of acidic calcium phosphate and other Indication for their use are single and multiple white, light brown spots on smooth surfaces of the teeth. Use these solutions in the form of applications or by electrophoresis.
The technique of their application is the following. The surface of the teeth that will handle remineralization solution, clear of a plaque with a brush or a cotton swab and then dried with warm air or a gauze napkin. Then the teeth are isolated from the mucosa, gums and apply on the surface caries spots cotton swabs, wetted remineralization liquid. Duration of applications is 15 to 20 minutes, during which tampons change 3-4 times (in average every 5 minutes). After you remove the tampon with remineralization liquid on the surface of the tooth impose a cotton swab moistened 2-4% solution of sodium fluoride. Duration of application - 2 - 3 minutes After the procedure the patient is recommended to drink or eat for 2 hours
Course remineralization therapy usually consists of 15 to 20 applications, but in some cases (when multiple caries), their number can be increased to 30 procedures. The applications are carried out every day, at least every other day. In case of forced interruption of treatment should be restarted. In conclusion, the patient is recommended care of the oral cavity with pasta "Pearls" or "Cheburashka".
According to our data, a good effect electrophoresis of 2.5% solution of glycerol calcium, which is held every day (or every other day) for 10 to 15 days.
