In the rational construction of living conditions, in addition to the work organization, great importance appropriate to the needs and opportunities of an aging organism motor activity in the period of work and rest, proper nutrition considering the volume of physical activity, age changes of metabolism and secretion of digestive glands, relations between people, excluding sudden emotional stress, chronic mental injury, contributing to the development of disease and premature aging.
Hygiene norms lifestyle of people should correspond to physiological capacity of elderly and old people, to contribute to the continuing their active creativity, longer life. In this respect, the normalization of the different elements of lifestyle development of balanced nutrition of elderly and old people became one of the Central directions in gerontology. When dealing with their primary tasks gorodiatichi unites hygienic, clinical and experimental methodical approaches to obtain in this field materials, the analysis suggests that the regulation of rating of supply is one of the most effective ways of influence on the processes of prevention of premature ageing.
As we age between nutrition, on the one hand, the metabolism and functions of an aging organism on the other, should be installed in a new relationship. However, until recently, this research has not been done. Any attempt to streamline the way of life and power in particular is based primarily on the knowledge of the true state of actual human nutrition. Moreover, all recommendations on the principles of construction of various food rations must be also connected with the analysis of actual power. It is impossible to radically change the nutrition of elderly people without regard to how it happened, was the stereotypical for each of them. Special attention should be paid to establishing the correlation dependences between the actual diet (calorie food, content of fat, protein, vitamins and other substances) and peculiarities of metabolism and the functional state of organism. It is also important the study of active influence of purposeful changes of diet on health. Such approaches in combination with the basic principles of gorodiatichi based on the materials available in the laboratory of nutrition hygiene of the Institute of gerontology of AMS of the USSR, allowed to substantiate diet, which could be the basis of further streamlining the supply of elderly and old age. These basic aspects of gorodiatichi adequately reflected in the present, monographs.
Given the growth in the circulation of persons 60 years and older in medical institutions, as well as the obvious perspective of increasing the number of this population, strengthen the geriatric orientation in the work of doctors and nurses throughout the network of outpatient and inpatient institutions. Geriatric assistance should be an integral part of the General system of treatment-and-preventive measures to be widespread and available as close as possible to the population of older ages. Special importance is the training in gerontology and geriatrics of all doctors and nurses.
Due to important medical and social problems of gerontology and the need for long-term preservation role in the social life of older persons by health authorities issued an order "On measures on organization of medical support of older persons" (the order of Ministry of health USSR № 347 of April 19, 1977). The order provides for the organization of system of improvement of professional skill of doctors and nurses at the local bases and in medical universities, institutes of advanced training of doctors and other institutions. Special attention is paid to improving the care of patients older than 60 years in hospitals and at home. Plans to create in all republics geriatric counseling rooms and experimental medical-social centers, the task of which is to create optimal conditions for health and social security of older persons for the purpose of more long-term preservation of physical and mental health of these populations. Given the urgency of the problem of medical-social protection of people of older ages, we have dedicated this issue is a special Chapter in the monograph.
