Diseases of the digestive system

Diseases of the digestive system are very common, especially among the young and able-bodied people. This is a great not only medical but also a social problem. Numerous world statistics show, for example, on the prevalence of peptic ulcer of stomach and duodenum. Thus, according to L. Demling (1970), peptic ulcer disease occurs every 10th citizen of Germany. In the USA peptic ulcer disease suffers 20 million people, of which 100 thousand annually undergo surgical treatment. Among the population of the USSR also a high prevalence of these diseases and the number of them over the last decade has increased.
It should be explained, on the one hand, deterioration of ecological situation in the world and the increasing risk factors for certain groups of population, especially in cities, with another - to improve the quality of diagnosis (wide introduction in practice of endoscopic methods of research, creation of specialized gastroenterological departments, development of different forms of health care for the population). However, the study of diseases of the digestive system in athletes so far not received adequate attention. The Chapter on digestive diseases in athletes is almost the only generalizing work in domestic and foreign sports medicine literature devoted to this issue.
All other works deal with particular questions, some diseases and methods of research. Extensive epidemiological studies of intensive incidence of digestive organs in athletes, almost none. Therefore, information about the gastroenterological diseases in the overall morbidity in athletes contradictory. According to the majority of authors group of diseases of the digestive system occupies one of last places - frequency of initial claims in comparison with not involved in sports a half times lower (see table. 2), and the number of days of incapacity 2 times less in each case.
There are, however, work in which a group of diseases of the digestive system is one of the first places in the overall structure of diseases athletes. This has its explanation in the fact that the authors based on data of hospitals (Sverdlovsk medical exercises dispensary, 1-St Moscow sports center, and so on)that do not reflect the true patterns of disease.
Reasons for the low incidence of digestive organs in athletes, in our view, somewhat. First, it is a medical screening on admission to the sport of children and adolescents. It is known that among the diseases of the digestive system in the world occupies a leading position pathology of stomach and duodenal ulcers, and in 60-70 % of cases the formation of chronic gastritis and duodenitis begins in childhood and adolescence. Obviously, the part of children and adolescents in medical selection is not allowed to sports, part't stand sports loads in the initial period of training.
Secondly, known for the role of preventive effect of physical activity (physical labor, health physical education, sports) for the prevention of diseases - gallstone disease, hemorrhoids and other
However, the number of diseases of the digestive system is more common among athletes than among the rest of the population. This applies, for example, to chronic cholecystitis and ulcers stomach and duodenal ulcer.
It is impossible to exclude low detectability of gastroenterological pathology, for originality, "outside" and rubbed the clinical picture, the absence of the usual symptoms for a number of diseases of the digestive tract in athletes and difficult to identify them when mass medical examinations. In addition, the lack in some cases targeted awareness of the doctor, and sometimes inability to use the full history and often having a place among sportsmen dissimulate can conceal the true picture of morbidity.
The lack of equipment in medical and physical training dispensaries modern diagnostic equipment, the relative complexity of diagnosis, requiring special training of personnel, often unable to diagnose gastrointestinal disease in athletes at an early stage of their emergence.
However, the importance and necessity of timely diagnostics of gastroenterology, as, however, and all others disease in athletes undoubted. According to the uptake of athletes to the therapist diseases of the digestive system account for 26.7-34,9% among other reasons. These diseases require more attention. It is known that the disease of digestive organs are often combined with each other, are associated with chronic infections that can cause functional disorders of the nervous and cardiovascular systems. Besides, part of them is often a basis for further formation of cancer.
Although modern gastroenterology includes many of the diseases in this section, knowingly omitted description of them rare in order to focus on the most common practice in sports medicine.
