Taking into account the importance of medical and social parties to the problems of gerontology and geriatrics provides organization of consultative geriatric rooms and experimental medical-social centers. To help, the doctors and nursing staff are planned to be published literature on gerontology and geriatrics, the peculiarities of diagnostics, treatment, rehabilitation of patients of elderly and senile age and care for them.
At the present stage of development of housing construction solution to the problem of housing for the elderly can not limited to the building of residential homes for the elderly. Older serving themselves, prefer to live in the apartment houses. The monograph shows that special place in the problem of housing for the elderly is a question of definition of the most appropriate forms of settlement of this group of the population. States that currently, the problem of dwellings for the elderly as part of the General problem of housing construction should be reflected in the creation of a network of different types of housing.
On the basis of theoretical developments concluded that the most effective and responsive to the needs of older persons form of settlement is dispersed accommodation special housing units in the structure of residential development. A necessary step towards the establishment in our country the most rational and promising forms of housing for the elderly is the study of composition methods of houses apartment-type in the system of residential development.
Among modern problems of Gerogian is important issue is learning how to achieve active longevity for the General population. As an integral indicator of health, level of longevity reflects the achievements of the Soviet state in improving living standards, improving working conditions, nutrition, housing, improvement of medical and social service workers. The problems of increasing the life expectancy of the population is closely intertwined with development issues and the implementation of research results in the field of hygiene and physiology of labour and power, with search of optimal methods and forms of geriatric care.
Obtained in the present work the results based on the analysis of the large and diverse nature of the material allowed largely to clarify map longevity of the population of the Soviet Union and fill it "white spots". It became possible to classify the territory of the USSR on the level and characteristics of the longevity of the population, to identify areas of maximum longevity. On concrete materials the relation between the level of longevity, long-term health of people and the nature of mortality in younger years. Confirmed dialectical unity of organism and environment and the role of social factors in achieving active, creative longevity.
Further in-depth development require such topics as comparative assessment of longevity urban and rural population, the causes of differences in male and female longevity, the ratio of social and natural-biological factors in longevity, the dependence of senile mortality nature of extinction in the previous age, the selection of the most accurate and adequate to the age of criteria of long-term health of people and a number of others.
The peculiarities of the health and lifestyle of old and long-lived people, and the nature of their needs in medical and social assistance, help to outline the rational measures for their maintenance, training of medical personnel and prevention of premature aging among younger cohorts.
