Adipose tissue

Adipose tissue - type of connective tissue. Consists of large cells, each of which contains a drop of fat. The cytoplasm and nucleus of the cells of adipose tissue pushed fatty substance to the periphery. From the cells are grouped fat lobules and larger accumulations of fat tissue.
Adipose tissue is located in gland, the mesentery, the retroperitoneal space, the yellow bone marrow. Under the skin, adipose tissue forms of subcutaneous fatty tissue. Adipose tissue protects the bodies from mechanical influences and cold, serves as a reserve of nutrients, taking part in water, vitamin and carbohydrate metabolism. About pathological changes in adipose tissue - see Adiponecrosis subcutanea neonatorum, Fat necrosis, Lipoma.
